The first annual United Invitational Golf Tournament was an overwhelming success. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of many United employees and partners, all events were sold out raising over $250,000 for Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
The festivities began with a VIP Dinner at Mezza Luna Restaurant in Princeton by the Sea. Guests mingled over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a delicious dinner at this local favorite.
Golfers assembled at Half Moon Bay Golf Links for a 10:00 a.m. shotgun tee and played best of two balls, filling both of Half Moon Bay Golf Links’ two stunning courses. The Old Course offered Lexus and Mercedes Hole in One prizes while the Ocean Course offered Harley Davidson motorcycle and Lexus Hole in Ones. A number of fun games were played on both courses including Inside the Circle, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive.
With golf games underway, non-golfers enjoyed a relaxing and informative private tour to local wineries hosted by a personal Sommelier. The tour included private tastings at Fogarty Winery in Woodside, lunch at Pasta Moon in Half Moon Bay followed by a visit to nearby Barterra Winery Tasting Room and Art Gallery.
As evening fell, guests converged at the Oceano Hotel and Spa for cocktails and bidding for an exciting selection of silent auction items. The evening festivities continued with a lively program of golf awards, live auction and raffle. Golfing awards included two sets of irons, and other select golfing equipment. Bidding was fierce for live auction items including airfare and luxury accommodations in Waikiki and New York, a 50 inch 3D HD TV, golfing at Half Moon Bay Golf Links, and more.
Since 2005, United Airlines has contributed more than $2 million and countless volunteer hours in support of Network of Strength programs and services. We are proud to continue that tradition with the United Invitational, furthering their mission of ensuring, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone.
Thanks again to all who made it such a great success. We hope you will join us again next year.
Sincerely,
Jim Keenan
