Why This is Important to Me
On October 11, I will run the Bank of America Marathon as a member of Breast Cancer Network of Strength Illinois' Pink Streak team because I want to ensure no one faces breast cancer alone. I have met so many women who are fighters and survivors, and I've known a few who have lost their fight with breast cancer. They are all amazing women, and they all inspire me every day. Tery, Sharon, Pam: I run this marathon for you.
Many of you know how strongly I feel about the fight against breast cancer. Thus, I've set a high goal: at least $5,000. And, this year, I've decided to create a very visible sign of my support for breast cancer. When I reach my goal, no matter whether it's March or October, I'm going to dye a pink streak in my hair. I want people to take a second look, and I definitely want people to ask questions.
The money I raise will benefit Breast Cancer Network of Strength Illinois, an organization that provides immediate emotional relief to anyone affected by breast cancer. Network of Strength offers outreach programs, breast health awareness workshops, wigs and prostheses for women with limited resources, and advocacy on policies related to breast cancer. Their YourShoes 24/7 Breast Cancer Support Center is the country’s only toll-free breast cancer hotline staffed entirely by trained peer counselors who are breast cancer survivors.
My training officially begins in June, and I hope you'll help support me on my journey ... financially if you can swing it, but definitely emotionally and physically as the miles build. Oh, and foot rubs won't be turned down.
